A lovely new coffee shop has opened inside the historic building next to the playground at the east end of Kelvingrove Park. Called An Clachan, the shop serves delicious homemade sandwiches, soups, scones, cakes, plus baby foods. Customers can use the toilets for free; non-customers can use them by donating a pound to Yorkhill’s charity. Sit outside with your snack and and watch your child play happily within sight. Current opening hours are every day, 8am – 6pm. Over the summer, An Clachan may offer later hours and events for children. Watch this space!

Yes, I agree. An Clachan is a great little cafe and its brilliant that it’s next to the little swing park in Kelvingrove. This is now one of the few places in Glasgow where you can sit and eat or have coffee and let your small children play while you relax. It is significantly better on a nice day and has just enough tables and chairs outside. You get a good view of the play area, but again much better if you’re sitting outside.
The food and cakes are excellent, healthy and reasonably priced. It is not the quickest service however, so visit when you’re not in a rush. With the sad closing of Theo’s on Gt Western Road last year, this is a new child-friendly venue – most welcome.
